Welcome to a special post-holiday visit to Kat’s Kitchen. The last month has been filled with festive gatherings and guilt-free treats. But we know a lot of folks are in need of a reset once the season concludes, and we’ve just just the smoothie recipe to kickstart it.
Ingredient Highlights:
Cranberries: one of the most antioxidant-dense fruits, this seasonal produce can help reduce and reverse the oxidation in skin cells caused by UV damage and stress to the skin. Additionally, they’re high in Vitamin C, which helps produce more collagen and fight free radical damage. As a refresher, free radicals damage the DNA and membrane of the skin cells as well as the production of collagen and elastin. Lastly, cranberries are great for digestive and urinary tract systems, keeping things flowing internally for a post holiday, winter glow.
Apples: this staple fruit high in flavonoids, which are anticarcinogenic and have anti-inflammatory properties. Researchers also found flavonoids can help protect skin from air pollution. The presence of polyphenols also helps the skin stay supple and hydrated.
Almond Milk: like many liquids, almond milk helps the body and therefore skin stay hydrated throughout the day. But in addition to that, it’s bursting with a wide range of vitamins and minerals, including B6, C and E (all antioxidants) as well as zinc, calcium, magnesium (featuring anti-inflammatory properties and even more protection from free radicals).
Cinnamon: an anti-inflammatory spice, cinnamon is another ingredient packing an antioxidant boost. It also promotes healthy blood flow, assisting new cell turnover that keeps skin looking radiant and young. Plus, it gives the smoothie a warming, wintery taste.
