What Is My Life's Purpose

Welcome! We’re so glad you’re here! As Mother Nature begins to awaken and wipe the sleep from her eyes, we start to see the newness all around us. Our morning walks through Central Park, in New York City, turn into a treasure hunt for the gifts left while we were sleeping. New buds are on the trees, the daffodils are blooming. The ducks, geese and turtles are busy stretching their limbs and sunbathing. Nature knows exactly what to do and when to do it. How amazing would it be to always know?! To be so connected to yourself, and your environment, that your path is so clear, so free, so understood and uncluttered. It’s not so easy for humans, is it? It’s not easy to really know what we are meant to do, or who we are meant to be. And it really gets tricky when we know there must be more, because we feel that deep in our core.

When we are born, we emerge into our families, our cultures, our religions and our communities; and these come with a multitude of rules and expectations. Not that anyone’s ‘trying’ to force us into a way of living, but it happens. We develop most, if not all, of our ‘rules-to-live-by’ before we even understand what that means. It removes our ability to choose. Our parents, our schools, our churches and synagogues, our families and friends create our world and our experience within it. We develop patterns of thoughts and actions that dictate every decision we make, literally about everything!

As we progress through our 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, even 60s and 70s, we may begin to feel a yearning. Something is missing. It’s a feeling that says, I’m still waiting for… Waiting for what, you ask yourself? Sometimes it comes in the moments right before you fall asleep at night, or in the morning as you feel your breath change and you begin to awaken. It can also come like a loud drum in your head, beating throughout the day. This can’t be all there is! You soothe yourself with gratitude lists for all that you have, but you want more. And guess what? That’s OK! That is the very first step of you knowing what you want. That is the first and most powerful step towards getting it. If this excites you, read on!

Many of the clients we work with, come to us for this very reason. Their goals are broad and unclear, but what is undeniable is a desire to be happier, more fulfilled, and feel more passionate about every aspect of life. They want a career that fires them up. They want a relationship that’s filled with intimacy, fun, communication and yes, great sex. They want to attract people into their lives with whom they have a positive synergy around who they are, and the journey they’re on. However, they have no idea what that looks like, or how to get there. All they really know is where they’re standing right here and now. This happens because, where they are now, started with where they began. And where they began, they did not choose. Their families, cultures and surroundings decided that. So, the million dollar question is simple… how is that serving you NOW?

super hero

This brings us to the superpower we all have inside of us. The ability to become AWARE and to CHOOSE. Through the coaching process, we help our clients awaken to the possibilities. And just to be clear, the possibilities are endless! It begins with defining our values, and what’s really important to us. This will be the thread that will weave through every decision we learn to consciously make.

When deciding what is important to our life experience, there are hundreds of values to consider, for example, freedom, fun, security, integrity, respect, responsibility, faith, and honesty. Think about what makes you happy and unhappy in your relationships, interactions and experiences, and why. Your values are hidden in those thoughts. Once you decide on your top 3 most important values, you have created your new foundation, from which your decisions, moving forward, will grow.

Now that we have landed on 3 values, these are the hard limits for us. If a decision goes against one or more of these values, it is not in alignment with who we really are. And when a decision, experience or person, is not aligned with who we really are, we usually have a physical reaction. Whether it’s an upset stomach, headache, lethargy or mild to severe depression, it is our body’s way of telling us to change course and redefine our purpose.

Next, our mission is to remember what turns us on! We want to find experiences from our past, and present, that make us feel passionate, excited, energized and ready to jump out of bed in the morning to seize the day. We want to write down each experience in detail, and how it makes us feel and why. This exercise gets us into the mindset of creative visioning, and feeling good. Remembering and writing about what really fires us up, gets our body and mind to a place where we want more. ‘Wanting more’ brings us to the precipice, to the moment when we decide where we are now is not enough, and there’s no going back.

So now we’ve decided we don’t just want more, we’ve decided there’s no other option, no plan B. Our life purpose is in that moment. That awakening. That awareness and new found clarity around who we are and what we want. Our purpose is to begin the exciting journey of discovery and action. Of taking our redefined core values, our superpowers of awareness and clarity and the fire in our bellies to go get it. Our life’s purpose is to take charge of our experience and create the life that we’ve always wanted; that works for us today. We have the power to mold and structure as we see fit, and to finally put ourselves first. We’re worth it!
