The Healing Journey

This year has been an emotional rollercoaster for many. Across the world we have seen families torn apart, and we have felt a huge sense of loss resulting from illness of all kinds, not just Covid. This virus has created a loss of income and challenged people in ways we never could have imagined.

Lockdowns have resulted in enforced solitude, which has increasingly led to depression and anxiety. For many there is a pervasive sense of being overwhelmed - trying to be parents, carers, teachers - everyone taking on duties over and above their usual routine and, all the while, coping with the challenges of doing this while confined to their homes.

Even prior to Covid, anxiety was particularly prevalent amongst our teens and young adults, and now we see an epidemic of depression and a constant struggle in all areas of mental health.

How did we get here and, more importantly, what can we do next? What can we do to heal our own pain? And how can we best improve the quality of our lives, to ensure that we stay with our heads above water and don’t drown.

Nourish has been looking at various different healing modalities that we thought could help our readers, and over the coming months, we will bring you ideas in all these areas of healing.

We talked with Marion Stone, who lives in Ibiza and offers virtual retreats and course work dealing with the issues of anxiety, pain, trauma, sense of loss and depression. We discussed with her the outline of this healing work, and her passion to inspire her clients to reconnect to their inner power, so we could better understand what she offers.

Marion Stone

1. We see that you began working with clients offering healing facials, how did this lead to the other areas of your treatments that you now offer?

It was actually the other way around. Discovering just how much stress showed-up on my face, and how aging it was, led me down a path of skincare, and in particular facials, that healed from the inside out.

After two debilitating burnouts, I started on a journey of self-transformation, practising meditation, yoga, Buddhism and spirituality. I trained in facial skincare, because I discovered that whatever is happening on the inside, manifests on the outside. I discovered that the mind and body are inextricably linked, and I have deepened my work and personal practice ever since.

2. It feels like unlearning and relearning how we feel, and view the world, could take years to recognize. Along the way, have you found your own path crucial to the work you now do with your clients?

I see it as ‘walking my talk’. I cannot possibly help others if I don’t understand myself, and how LIFE works. It really is a lifelong process, because we will always experience challenges [big and small], and how we meet those challenges depends on our past.

The last few years I have been to the depth of my psyche, because of my own personal challenges, and I can say with utter truth, that it’s been the most incredibly difficult and awe- inspiring experience. This is an invaluable gift to be able to share with people.

3. What does your process look like when someone comes to you for help?

I can’t really answer that. Every single process is different, even with the same client. Sometimes people come to me with deep issues, sometimes they don’t know what their issues are, or even why they are suffering.

At times, its simply holding space for someone, and opening their mind to a different way of thinking; helping them to have those magical ‘Aha’ moments that change everything.

What I can say is this work is deep, it’s profound and life changing. It releases the emotional burdens that confine us, it opens-up space within.

People feel lighter - like a weight has been lifted. They feel empowered and connected to the immense power within them. In fact, lighter, is what they are.

4. You discuss, on your website, your own experience with anxiety. It feels like it has become one of the developed world’s largest biproducts of stress. Do you have any thoughts on why it has got so bad, for so many, and what you feel helps to cope with it?

Anxiety comes from constantly thinking and worrying about what might happen. It comes from worrying about a future that hasn’t happened. It comes from not being in the present moment.

That may sound flippant, because someone reading this may have genuine concerns about their health, finances and survival. I get it. I am fully aware of what it’s like to be in deep financial survival mode and have genuine life-threatening health conditions. The problem is, worrying about it makes it worse. I won’t go deeply into the psychology of stress, however, when we worry, it causes tension in the body. Constant and chronic worry causes deeper stress within the body, which over time can manifest into illness.

I have breathing techniques, that can bring down the nervous system from a state of panic, to one of calm, in a few minutes. One day I actually whipped myself into a panic attack, by catastrophic thinking. I actually caused it, but thankfully had the tools to bring myself back to calm again.

5. When did you start offering retreats and, under normal circumstances, what do they look like and how do they differ from the work you do with people individually? Also, this work you do, as a practitioner of Brandon Bays ‘The Journey Method’, can you give us a little insight into what it is?

My retreats are beautiful. They are intense, personal, and very transformational. Three full days of emotional mind work with me, yoga and meditation, nature walks, swimming in the sea, lovely food and of course, lots of relaxation/reflection time. The difference with my retreats is that clients get my full attention for three whole days.

The Journey Method is a powerful modality of getting to the root cause of one’s suffering. I combine this method with Neuro Linguistic Programming (NPL), which is all about restructuring the way we think.

I offer meditation, spiritual healing, and all the tools and experience that I have gained from my own 15-year journey. It is very powerful. A complete process, that includes releasing old emotions that are suppressed, hidden, avoided or sometimes numbed out. There are mind hacks, breathing techniques, huge support from me and, most importantly, a safe space in which this work can be done.

6. What is your hope, as you move into 2021, regarding self-discovery and mental health connection?

My intention is to continue to help people shift from inner turmoil to inner peace; to inspire people to harness the immense power that they hold within. It’s happening. For me, I focus on one client at a time, creating the online support, the program of meditation, the emotional healing course, and the at-home retreats. I really believe that people have the power to heal themselves and get themselves out of their suffering. I feel honored to be able to support them.

MY HEALING SESSION
When I did my session with Marion, I felt very relaxed and not in a sense of crisis at all. I was lucky and felt grateful that I had been able to cope with Covid with a reasonable frame of mind. However, I was sure that, despite the previous spiritual work I had undertaken, if I delved deeper into myself, there would be more to unravel.

After connecting to Marion, while she was in Ibiza and as I sat in my apartment in New York, I began to feel a sense of ease and release. We started with meditation which continued to relax me, and I felt safe and very comfortable. In a previous consultation, we had discussed some of my ups and downs in life, and the work I had also done to overcome these roadblocks. It felt like we gently eased into an area of my life that I wanted to address, one which we can all relate to in our lives - relationships. I wanted to explore the idea that perhaps some patterns or traits were repeating themselves, and that they were not serving me well.

It was quite remarkable how quickly we were able to get to a very deeply buried issue, that even I was not aware. With some inner child work, and going back in time, we were able to ‘metaphorically’ say goodbye to the pain, and the underlying story that I had, unknowingly, been carrying around with me for almost my whole life.

I felt exhausted after our two-hour session. It was emotional, and yet felt genuine and real. Ever since, it has made me walk around feeling curious to discover what else could be inside me, showing up in life as a negative pattern, perhaps causing issues to unfold.

The fact is, we are all very emotional beings. We live in a beautiful world, yet one which is flawed; and our emotional currency for how we live out our years on this earth, is our responsibility. No one else can make the decision to fix us. How we were raised, our childhood experiences, and many other factors were not under our control. So, it is how we choose to recognize ourselves as we grow, addressing our flaws and weaknesses, that determines how we choose to walk through life.

I can highly recommend that now, more than ever, it is time to look inwards and explore. As Marion advocates - take some time to create healing and go on a journey. You may be challenged at times, but your overall outlook on life and health, will look and feel better when you do.
