The Best Professional Facial Treatments for Skin

Our skin, and how we look after it, seems to be the topic of every conversation we are having with friends currently. We are all investing time and energy checking it, caring for it, and nurturing it with the best products we can find. Some of us are also going a step further and experimenting with the world of ‘at home devices’, and the more invasive treatments available on the market. We, at Nourish, feel the time is right - as things begin to open up, and we are able to go back to our usual routines - to delve deeper into finding the best facial treatments for your skin. We spoke with two experts: ITEC International Licensed Medical Esthetician, Victoria Kroshyna, and Master Aesthetic Artist/Healer, Michelle Calabrese.

“I would say that in my 15 years’ experience in transformational and medical aesthetics, Vivace, a microneedling with a radiofrequency device, is a treatment that I love,” said Calabrese. “On a scientific level, it has incredible remodeling potential and it gives the effect of making a person look like they took a 5-year-long nap, due to the immediacy of the radio frequency process”, she added. The process helps stimulate collagen to multiply existing collagen, and the microneedling itself, is a cumulative process that repairs the tissue to greater health, which continues for up to three months. “Overall, it treats many conditions and restores tissue to respond in a fresh and radiant way. It has replaced dated devices that were the only option for its class of result.”

Vivace Machine

For beginners, Calabrese suggests a treatment like dermal infusion, which is essentially the equivalent of how you would steam-clean a carpet, but with extra benefits. “The dermal infusion technology has a vacuum, polisher, and an infusion process that quickly enhances the skin’s health, while targeting a multitude of conditions,” she explained. This treatment is also suitable for all skin types and is customizable. “This treatment has a preventive aging property and said property resurfaces dead cells and penetrates nourishing solutions into the skin on a deeper level,” she said.

Dermal Infusion

Below is a list of treatments that Calabrese recommends for specific skin types.
Acne-prone skin: Laser genesis, dermal infusion, chemical peels, blue light therapy, or skin pen microneedling.
Dry Skin: Oxylight facial or dermal infusion.
Oily Skin: Dermal infusion, laser genesis, or chemical peels.
Mature Skin: Microneedling, radiofrequency, chemical peels, pico genesis, and ablative lasers.

What to do at home

“I am a fan of LED light therapy at-home devices, as they stimulate blood flow, reduce bacteria, and revive the cells to become healthier,” she said. Calabrese also recommends microcurrent devices for lifting and firming. “Devices like the NuFACE Trinity are great because they increase blood flow, which gives oxygen to the tissue and contracts the muscle to stay lifted”.

Something that she recommends approaching with caution, is the use of derma rollers. “They can be dangerous and use cheap needles that can cause scarring and infection, if not handled properly,” she explained. “The idea is effective because it intends to increase product penetration.” However, she notes that the quality of the tools can either make this procedure hazardous or beneficial. If she had to choose one, she’d use the Environ gold dermaroller.

On the other hand, if you’re not interested in using a device at home, there are product alternatives. “Any non-professional grade resurfacing toners such as Kat Burki Goji Essence and masks that act as mini peels, like the Kat Burki Acid peel, are great,” she said. “Products with ingredients such as glycolic acid, lactic acid, and salicylic acids, are beneficial to turn over dull cells and freshen up the surface.”Also I like the Kat Burki Micro wand.

Her one disclaimer, about at-home treatments, is that if they’re not done consistently, there may not be any visible benefit for the skin.

“I’m really impressed with the Eye Cream Complex. Immediately my eye area contour looks brighter thanks to a powerful blend of B vitamins that also strengthen the skin. Green tea and Biotin calm the area for a more rested look,” she says. “After use, the skin is visibly smoother, silky, dewy, and nourished with peptides and ceramides”.

Kroshyna is also a big fan of the Form Control Marine Collagen Gel during oxygen facials, because it provides an immediate result. “I see how it instantly fills in and smoothes fine lines and wrinkles. It literally transforms the complexion of the skin into a lifted and better-contoured appearance—it definitely boosts the visible effect of this facial,” she explained.

“I would also recommend the pH+ Enzyme Essence for breakout prone skin,” she said. “When there is an inflammation and unbalanced oil production going on, this essence would help maintain a healthy acid mantle and stimulate regeneration and repair, helping to minimize breakouts,” she added. “Antioxidant-dense turmeric and vitamins C, K, zinc will help with inflammation and protect.” Bioactive pumpkin and papaya enzymes will accelerate the exfoliating process to prevent new breakouts from forming.

“I think that the whole Kat Burki line of products has very active anti-aging properties,” she said. For example, she credits the Super Peptide Firming Cream for making the skin tighter and plumper, therefore giving you a healthy youthful glow.

In addition to the above, the Vital Hydration Blast is an effective treatment for dry and sensitive skin. “Use it at night to wake up with younger-looking and stress-relieved skin,” she said.
